Decorating the Christmas tree was always a special occasion. Christmas music blaring on the radio and hot cocoa in our mugs, we’d set to work putting the tree together. The best part was looking at all the ornaments. each of them came with a story. Maybe they’d been on my mom’s tree when she was little or maybe they were the first ornament each of us got. Looking at each and remembering the history was part of the tradition of Christmas.
We were hanging memories on our tree.
Those memories include all the pets who have been in my life so our ornament collection includes ornaments we’ve gotten in tribute to them. Pets were such a big part of our family that they earned their place on the tree.
Since memories are made to be shared, I love giving ornaments as gifts. I even started a tradition of gifting my niece an ornament every year so when she is old enough to have a tree of her own, she’ll have her own ornaments and memories to put on her tree.
