Over the winter I decided to try using fleece bedding for my guinea pigs. I had learned about it in a few of the guinea pig groups and thought I would give it a try. It had it’s good points. With 3 cages I wasn’t throwing out a garbage bag full of litter at cage cleaning time. Once I bought the fleece and towel material I used, there really weren’t any other costs. But it does require some work. For it to work well, you really need to sweep up the droppings everyday. Working overtime I didn’t have as much free time so my cleaning time went way down. I was thinking about going back to litter.
Lucky for me, I got the opportunity to try carefresh® custom and carefresh® complete just as I was contemplating making the switch. One 12.5L package of each arrived at my house.

Bufford and Cletus, the Skinny Pig Bros, got to try the litter since they are the messiest of my guinea pigs. They have a 2 x 4 C & C cage and it took 1 1/2 packages to give the floor a good 1” covering. I do my cage cleaning on the weekends. I used the carefresh® custom for 2 weeks with spot cleaning the potty spots at the 1 week spot. I added the other 1/2 of the package when I did the spot cleaning.
The carefresh® worked as expected. It did a great job at absorbing the urine and I didn’t notice any odor during the 2 weeks. Bufford and Cletus had no problems with it.
If you use litter for your small pets, carefresh® is one I can recommend.
You can purchase carefresh® in a variety of sizes on Amazon.
