If there is one thing, I like to keep it hand, it’s a pet stain and odor remover. Even with the most well behaved pet, accidents happen. I’m always on the look out for a deodorizer so when I was given the chance to receive a bottle of PetKeeper Secrets Pet Odor & Stain Remover and do a review, I said yes.
PetKeeper Secrets uses a mix of minerals made of carbonates, baking soda, zeolite and 1/5th of 1% elemental mineral phosphates.. Instead of a bottle full of liquid, the bottle arrived with a powder in it. This saves money with shipping, but it also means when the bottle is empty, instead of buying a whole new bottle, you just need to buy a refill packet. Add in the fact that the bottle is recyclable and you can tell this is a company with the environment on their mind.
Amblin, my ferret joined me in testing PetKeeper Secrets. I set up a carpet sample in his cage for 2 days and he was gracious enough to anoint it for me. Then I went to work trying PetKeeper Secrets.
First was mixing it up. The bottle didn’t have instructions but I was able to find them on their website and get the bottle mixed up and ready to use. (Since then I have corresponded with Susan, one of the owners, and she let me know that they have added a tag with the instructions which are pretty easy- Just add water.) I sprayed the carpet, let it set for a few minutes then wiped the mess, which came up easily. I gave it a quick sniff and didn’t detect any urine or poop odor, but I set it aside to dry for a day so I could double check. The double check checked out with still no odor detected.
With the carpet test over, I went onto the next test. Along with taking care of stains and odors on surfaces like carpet, PetKeeper Secrets is also works on airborne odors.
I put the bottle in the downstairs bathroom, where the most popular litter box was. I will admit, I was a little skeptical about PetKeeper Secrets working for airborne odors. It has no odor itself and pretty much every deodorizer I’ve used is scented so even if it didn’t get rid of the odor, there was the scent to cover the bad smell. So I was surprised when I used it for the first time to find after I sprayed it, I couldn’t smell the litter box mess. In fact I really couldn’t believe that it had taken care of the odor so I kept trolling the bathroom hoping for a stinky cat mess in order to try PetKeeper Secrets again. Luckily my cats didn’t disappoint and I was able to give it a try a few more times. While there were a few times where I had to spray a second time, it did a good job getting rid of the smell.
Review Wrap-up
+Environmentally friendly. From recyclable packaging to concentrated refills, Pet Keeper Secrets thinks green. Learn about all the ways using it helps the environment.
+Works on both surface stains and odors and airborne odors. Who doesn’t like a product that has multiple purposes? I know I get tired of having so many products in my cabinets. It’s nice to know one bottle can take the place of two.
+No scent. Perfect for people who are allergic to perfumes or just don’t like the scent of air deodorizers have.
+Refills save you money and space. Why pay for water? The refills cost less to ship and won’t take up much room so it’s easy to keep several on hand.
+Solution stays good indefinitely. Chemical products tend to loose their effectiveness over time, but once mixed up PetKeeper Secrets stays active indefinitely.
— While it’s available in a few stores in California, right now the rest of us can only order it online. So you’ll have to be sure to keep the refills in stock.
