April showers bring rain showers along with mud and dirty dogs which mean the number of baths around here multiplies. The perfect time to do a shampoo review, right? So when the opportunity to Organic Oscar shampoo came up we took it.
Organic Oscar was founded by Marie Svet after she adopted a healthy lifestyle for herself and wanted the same for her dogs. She used her experience working in the cosmetics and perfume industry to develop a line of grooming products for pets that is organic, cruelty free and environmentally friendly as well as affordable.
Organic Oscar’s commitment to offer high quality, healthy and safe grooming products means that their products contain the highest percentage of organic, natural and biodegradable ingredients as possible. Just take a look at the ingredient label. They have earned the Leaping Bunny logo from the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics’ due to their dedication to not testing on animals. Biodegradable ingredients keep the environment safe. The packaging is 100% recyclable and the products are made in the California in a solar powered factory.
We received 2 bottles of Organic Oscar shampoo- Organic Oatmeal Shampoo and Organic Aloe Vera Shampoo along with a sample of 2 in 1 Shampoo and conditioner. I have to say, I usually don’t pay to much attention to the bottle the shampoo comes in, but the bone shaped bottles are absolutely cute! And they are a pump style bottle which is so much easier to deal with when you are elbows deep in water and suds while bathing your dog. No slippery bottles to drop when you are trying to open it with wet hands.
I used to be a groomer. Ingredients were important but there are a few other things I took into consideration when deciding on a shampoo.
It had to be:
- Easy to lather up and move through the coat. I have soft water so shampoos suds up quickly, but I’ve come across some that didn’t suds up well and that I had to keep adding more shampoo to so I could get it over my dog’s whole body. It shouldn’t take half a bottle of shampoo to bathe a Jack Russell.
- Easy to rinse off. I tend to be anal when it comes to rinsing off shampoo. Shampoo that isn’t rinsed out can cause skin irritation. I didn’t want that to happen to my clients’ dogs. I don’t want it to happen to my own dogs.
- Leave a the pet smelling clean without leaving an obnoxious scent. I don’t like shampoos that leave a super perfumey scent. And I don’t like shampoos that leave no scent. I just like my dog to smell like she had a bath for at least the few minutes she will stay clean.
Organic Oscar shampoo met all three of my standards. It was easy to soap up and I only had to use a few pumps to cover my dogs. It rinsed out no problem so no worries about any shampoo being left behind to cause a problem. And it left a light pleasant scent (I loved the peppermint scent the oatmeal shampoo has!) so someone could tell your pet had a bath.
If you are looking for a quality shampoo (that also comes in a cute bottle), Organic Oscar is one I can recommend. It gets the job done using ingredients that are safe for your pet and the environment. They have a variety of products for you to chose from- Organic Aloe Vera shampoo and conditioner, Organic Oatmeal shampoo, 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, Holistic Bite & Itch Relief shampoo, and Organic Lavender Puppy shampoo, plus Organic Aloe Vera wipes and a Groomers line of products so you could find the best one for your pet.
