Having parrots means you need a constant supply of bird toys to keep them happy.

While I would love to stock up on parrot toys that are already made for my 4 feathered kids, I’m a bit budget-challenged.
That means I make most of my bird toys. I keep a supply of bird toy parts on hand so I can make toys whenever I want to or need to. And having a variety of toy parts makes it easier to make the toys different.
And my absolute favorite thing to use for making toys is a skewer. It makes a great base for putting toy parts on and the best part is it’s reusable. It comes in different sizes- small, medium (I couldn’t resist this 2 pack so I always have a toy ready to hang in the cage), and large.
And different skewer sizes in my supply means I can change up the bird toys I make even more.
The one problem I have is not making the same toy over and over and over…
Do you have that problem?
I decided I’d share the different skewer toys I make here in case anyone else needs some toy making inspiration. I’ll be adding more toys as I make them.

Bird Toy Idea #1
This is an easy toy to make with your skewer with the addition of a few items you can buy.
All you need are(In order from top to bottom):
Cardboard cat scratcher(not infused with catnip)- cut into pieces
Shredded paper Basket Fill– pushed into Grapevine ball, can mix in treats like Nutriberries (my birds’ fave)
Paper Towel Rolls- cut in half then fold each section in half. At the folded end put a hole. Make 5-6 sections. Thread a zip-tie through the holes and tighten so you have a ring.
Cardboard Drink Coaster – a second one added to the bottom
Bird Toy Idea #2
This toy has a surprise in the cup. There’s where the cardboard cat scratcher piece and wood block is. make it even more fun by hiding some treats in there.
