I said I wasn’t going to do it. Then I did it anyway. “It” is raising Monarch caterpillars to butterflies. I did it last year after finding caterpillars enjoying the milkweed around my yard. It was fun and exciting to see the changes, but it was like having another pet. They require attention and care. That is why this year I said no.
I saw my first Monarch of the year flying around laying eggs on a milkweed plant. I quickly went over and found 2 eggs then looked around and found 4 more. My excitement got the best of me and I settled the eggs into a container for egg hatching watch. 4 days later
4 days later I had 6 teeny tiny caterpillars to watch grow. This week they all pupated and in a little over a week I hopefully will have 6 beautiful butterflies to release.
Of course, I got myself in a cycle and I found more eggs as I collected milkweed for my caterpillars to eat. So now I have 6 more caterpillars and am waiting for 3 eggs to hatch.
Somebody help me! 🙂
You can see some of my caterpillar pics on my Instagram garden account.
